And so it begins....

My name is Rachael Ruiz.  I was born and raised in a smallish town in California, who’s name is insignificant.  I am currently a nanny for an incredible family that has five darling children.
I am embarking on a journey to Uganda, Africa in January 2012, working with orphans, missionaries and medical specialists.
I have only recently received my associates degree and since have not used it in the professional world.  I have volunteered countless hours in my church nursery, youth group and children’s ministry for more than ten years.
I have no medical training, i don't have the credentials to teach, i have little knowledge pertaining to the culture, language or land of Uganda.  Therefore i am technically totally unqualified to go.
this being said, i will tell you what i DO have
  • Hands- to wash dishes, to serve food, to hold large jugs of water, to dress little bodies, to change little diapers, to prop up bottles, to away wipe tears, to hold with others in prayer.

  • arms- to hug new friends, to hold new babies, to carry supplies to those in need, to stretch out as an example of the greatness of God.

  • feet- to walk to town, to kick a foot ball, to dance, to stand beside the bath tub, to bring good news.

  • lips- to encourage, to speak the truth, to plant kisses on little cheeks, to tell stories of Love, mercy and grace.  To smile, to laugh, to sing, to teach.

  • ears- to listen; to stories, jokes, hopes and fears.

  • I also am equipped with availability, time and desire to help those in need.

SO, i will go.
If you want to hear more, I’ll tell you all about it, just follow me.
